HISTORY

Kappa Alpha Theta, the first Greek-letter fraternity among women, was founded in 1870 by Bettie Locke Hamilton, Alice Allen Brant, Bettie Tipton Lindsey, and Hannah Fitch Shaw (see above). Theta is over 170 chapters strong with houses throughout the United States and Canada. Over 170,000 women have been initiated into Theta, forming strong friendships in chapters from all over, holding the fraternity together. The Pi Chapter of Theta was founded at Albion College on March 19, 1887!

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Kappa Alpha Theta exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demands of mature life.
