Court Appointed Special Advocates (C.A.S.A.)

CASA is central to fulfilling society's most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.

Today, there are more than 77,000 advocates serving in nearly 1,000 state and local program offices nationwide. CASA programs across the country are known by several different names, including Guardian ad Litem, Child Advocates and Voices for Children. Since the inception of CASA advocacy, volunteers have helped almost 240,000 abused and neglected children find safe, permanent homes in which they can thrive.

CASA programs can help a displaced child find the security needed to grow and reach full potential. It's been shown that:

-Children who have been assigned CASA volunteers tend to spend less time in court and in foster care than those who do not have CASA representation.
-CASA advocated children have better chances of finding permanent homes.
-CASA cases are more likely to be reviewed on a regular basis by the court.

Pi Chapter-Kicks for CASA

Pi Chapter's signature philanthropy event is called "Kicks for CASA".  Any group on campus can have a team and participate in an all day long kick ball tournament. All proceeds go to the local C.A.S.A. program.

Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation

Founded in 1960, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation was the vision of Evelyn Widman Tunnicliffe, Eta/Michigan, Theta Foundation's first president appointed by Grand Council. Her vision was to put Fraternity "ideals into action" by helping individuals realize their fullest potential through rehabilitation, education, and involvement. Thanks to her commitment and the support of members who follow in her footsteps, the legacy of Evelyn Widman Tunnicliffe and her love for Kappa Alpha Theta carries on through the work of Theta Foundation.

Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable and educational tax-exempt organization, independent from the Fraternity, whose mission is to secure and manage resources for the educational, leadership, and philanthropic programs of the Fraternity and for the scholastic, professional, and service pursuits of its members to help them reach their fullest potential and make a difference in the world. Created by Thetas for Thetas, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation is dedicated to raising money for scholarships, educational and leadership grants, and financial hardship grants for our Kappa Alpha Theta members.

Awarding more than $1 million annually, what began in 1960 as a means of raising funds to support the philanthropic and educational opportunities for members of the Fraternity continues today as a pillar of support for its individual members, chapters, and the Fraternity at large.

The Friendship Fund

Since it was established in 1926, the Friendship Fund has been a tangible demonstration of the love and concern we feel for one another. It is based on a beautiful, timeless idea—sisters reaching out to sisters. During a period of need, the care, love and support demonstrated by a Friendship Fund gift has made all the difference to hundreds of Thetas.

The Friendship Fund provides gifts to Thetas experiencing extreme financial hardship due to serious or terminal illness, job loss, natural disaster, and other devastating occurrences. One very important aspect of the Fund is the secrecy surrounding the giving of gifts. Two members write on the behalf of a sister, and the Friendship Fund committee determines the award amount. The requesters remain anonymous, and all records are confidential.

Through the Friendship Fund, we reaffirm our belief that Kappa Alpha Theta is larger than ourselves and that what we give to one another comes full circle.
